Abstract

This article discusses phatic communication in Indonesian language during guest visits. The method used is the free listening and conversation technique (SBLC technique). The linguistic approach used in this study uses pragmatics. The role of the researcher in the SBLC technique is not involved in the conversation or interaction when people are in dialogue and the data speakers are not aware of the researcher's presence. The researcher becomes an important tool in data collection, namely by listening to and transcribing Indonesian phatic communication. The data obtained are classified with a table based on the problem points to be solved. The results of the research are obtained in the form of a pragmatic study to develop phatic communication in this field. The problem formulation in this article is how phatic communication in Indonesian language is based on place. Then what are the forms of communication in Indonesian language? Furthermore, how is the use of phatic communication in Indonesian language. The findings of this article are phatic communication in Indonesian language based on place has two spaces, namely visiting the homes of friends and relatives. The forms of phatic communication in Indonesian language are 10 forms, namely: greeting, asking permission, asking how things are, gossiping, small talk, introductions, asking about activities, complimenting, offering something, and thanking. The use of phatic communication in this study was categorized based on when entering the house, when leaving the house, and when ending the visit. Phatic communication during a visit is important to ensure proper etiquette and foster better relationships between the two parties. Future research on phatic communication can be conducted by examining the concept of visiting beyond just visiting friends and relatives, but also extending it to broader contexts.
